When Texas couples choose to divorce, they must take many things into consideration. Especially for couples with complex or high-value assets, the process can be even more challenging if not managed properly. For couples who are in the media spotlight, there may be the added stress of rumors and controversy during divorce, though some celebrity divorce stories seem to be more dramatic than others.
Recently, celebrity couple Dennis Quaid has filed for divorce from his wife Kimberly Buffington-Quaid. The divorce petition follows Buffington-Quaid's filing for legal separation in October. In addition, in March, Buffington-Quaid filed for divorce, but then retracted the papers in April.
The Quaid's have been married since 2004 and have 4-year-old twins together. Quaid's divorce petition seeks joint custody of the children. In addition, Quaid has offered to pay spousal support to Buffington-Quaid. Early reports following the divorce filing to the petition do not elaborate on any of the details of the divorce such as property division or the amount of spousal support that may be offered. This will make the third divorce for Quaid, who was previously married to PJ Soles and Meg Ryan.
Celebrity or otherwise, divorce is never easy for couples in Texas, especially those with children. What is already an emotional experience can be even more so when tensions mount. In addition, couples who have complex or high-value assets may find that the property division process of divorce is challenging. Thankfully, with the right tools and an attitude of cooperation, most divorces can be successfully settled without a great deal of heartache.
